Truro and Penwith College Wins South West Regional Award at Classics for All 'Impact Awards'

We’re delighted to share the exciting news that the our very own Cornwall Classics Association Chair, Stuart Falconer has been awarded the South West Regional Award for Truro and Penwith College at the Classics for All's Impact Awards 2025!

The award recognises the incredible impact of the college’s thriving Classics programme, and in particular, the dedication and vision Stuart brings to Classical Civilisation education in Cornwall.

Stuart currently teaches over 80 A Level Classical Civilisation students, making the college "one of the larger UK providers of the subject" despite only being a one-man department. His commitment extends well beyond the classroom, arranging at least three guest speakers a year, leads annual trips to Athens, biannual visits to Rome, and encourages students to enter national Classics-related competitions.

He also plays a key role in the wider classics community, constantly liaising with the "Classical Association Education team on the Classical Civilisation Qualification Review,” and works hard to inspire future students. He supports local schools to encourage students to consider Classical Civilisation, offering taster sessions using a Roman loans box he developed for outreach across Cornwall.

As well as founding the Cornwall Classical Association, Stuart also founded the Cornwall branch of the Young Archaeologist Club last year, providing further opportunities for young people to explore the ancient world in hands-on ways.

We are immensely proud of Stuart for his tireless work in making Classics education accessible, exciting, and deeply enriching for students in the South West.
